Our rotational grazing practices produce great beef, but they also improve the health of our herd, the health of our community, and the health of the soil.
Healthier cows
Our cows graze on a mixture of lush perennial grasses that are native to Virginia. They are never fed any grain, corn, soybeans, antibiotics, or hormones. We supplement their forage-based diet with all natural minerals to help ensure a balanced diet and optimal health.
In addition to their daily diet of grass, our cows are offered the following free choice supplements:
Organic Kelp - pink eye prevention & reduction of bovine emissions
Apple Cider Vinegar - animal gut health & prevention of parasites
Diatomaceous Earth - prevention of parasites
Redmond’s Salt - regulation of body pH & proper water retention
California-grown Garlic powder - all natural fly control
Healthier consumers
What a cow eats significantly affects the nutritional composition of its beef. Grassfed beef is nutritionally superior to beef from commercial feedlots so you can feel good about what you’re feeding your family.
Benefits of grassfed, grass finished beef:
Naturally leaner & lower in calories
More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
More conjugated linoleic acid, a fat that is thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks
More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
Healthier soil
The health of the soil is at the center of everything we do. We use rotational grazing – continuously moving our herd to fresh grass - which offers numerous ecological benefits:
As our cows graze, the grass experiences constant cutting & regrowth which stimulates dense root growth, increasing soil health & fertility, and preventing erosion.
As they move on to new pastures, the cows leave their manure behind. Because of their continual movement, the manure is spread evenly, providing natural fertilizer to help the grass grow while also reducing nitrogen runoff.
